The Special few or the Common Generality?

I have seen the power of selective focus. It has paved way to a whole new world of opportunities for me and those who have applied it.

I had a short discussion with a friend yesterday which emphasized the power of selective focus.

I applied for a particular fellowship program sometime last year, this was my second application for that program and when the result was out, I didn’t qualify, again.

So, when we got talking, he told me how he had to be selective about which project to focus on in his application and how he had been preparing for that application for almost a year focusing on that specific project. He qualified for the program. I didn’t. I learnt my lesson the hard way.

The ‘Special Few’ are those who are ‘selective’ about what they focus on. They are not the common generality, who want to be everything to everybody.

Building a strong personal brand demands selective focus. You can’t do everything and you can’t be everything to everybody.
